Matthews Automation Exhibits at Direct-to-Consumer / Omnichannel Fulfillment Show

GERMANTOWN, WI — Attendees at the fifth-annual Operations Summit tradeshow, held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 12-14, 2016, will see solutions for optimizing order fulfillment execution from Matthews Automation Solutions’ brands Lightning Pick and Pyramid. The two will co-exhibit in Booth 220, highlighting Lightning Pick’s put-to-light light-directed picking solution integrated with Pyramid’s Director WCS warehouse control system and WES warehouse execution system.

For light-directed order sortation of batch-picked, mixed stock keeping units (SKUs) into unique e-commerce customer orders, Lightning Pick’s dual-sided LP Put put-to-light put wall system utilizes light-directed picking modules for high-speed, automated sortation.

Constructed as a series of shelves divided vertically into multiple openings (or “cubbies”), each space represents a unique customer order. Openings on both front and back are equipped with a light-directed picking module. After a tote filled with mixed products arrives from the storage section of a warehouse, an operator at the sortation side of the put wall scans an item’s barcode. Lights illuminate to indicate the put location and quantity required to fill that order. The operator sorts the products into the designated locations, and then presses a button to confirm that the order is complete. This triggers corresponding lights on the pack-out side to illuminate, letting packers know when a completed order can be taken away for final packing.

Pyramid Director WCS Logo
The Pyramid Director Warehouse Control System (WCS) is operational software that connects and communicates with separate, discrete automated material handling equipment (MHE). It works with conveyors, sorters, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and light- and voice-directed picking—regardless of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brand. By communicating with the equipment’s programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Director WCS triggers each unit’s operation to support material flow.
Pyramid Director WES logo
The Pyramid Director Warehouse Execution System (WES) is performance optimization software that seamlessly integrates, optimizes and dynamically manages a distribution center’s operations, end-to-end. It manages data from inventory, order, labor, transportation and other activities from any brand of warehouse management system (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, utilizing sophisticated algorithms to leverage real-time inputs via its WCS from all automation (including order finishing, manifesting and other sources).

In addition to showcasing solutions in the exhibit, Pyramid’s founder Mukesh Ram will host a breakfast roundtable on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:20 a.m. The discussion will focus on warehouse controls, automation and technologies used to optimize order fulfillment execution in omni-channel environments. Topics include defining warehouse control systems (WCS) and warehouse execution systems (WES), and how they can improve material flow and process efficiency in distribution or fulfillment centers.

Ram will also discuss how to determine the most appropriate order release strategy—such as wave-based, waveless or a combination of the two—are best fit for a given operation. If time permits, order finishing systems for automated document insertion, automated bagging and boxing, print-and-apply labeling and related systems will also be covered.

Lightning Pick and Pyramid’s integrated direct-to-consumer and omni-channel solutions can be seen at Booth 220 throughout the Operations Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio—April 12-14, 2016. For more information, contact Joe Pelej at 262.250.2143, or by email at jpelej@matw.com.
