Genavieve Wendell – Lead Electrical Engineer

Why did you come to work for Matthews Automation Solutions?

I was looking for a company where I could build my career and make a home for myself. I wanted to work at a place where I could get to know my team members and feel like my contributions made a large impact. I could tell in my interview that Matthews had that small company feel, while offering the benefits of a larger global corporation.

What is the most exciting aspect of your career with Matthews?

Every day at Matthews offers a different challenge. It could be a customer asking for something we’ve never done before, a colleague calling from the field with an unexpected problem, or a part with an unrealistic lead-time. It keeps me on my toes and gives me an opportunity to grow and learn daily.

What is the most interesting project you are working on right now?

One of the coolest things about working for Matthews is that I am working on projects for companies that I buy from and use. One of my most interesting projects I am working on is for an e-grocery for which I have a subscription. It is interesting to get to see the behind-the-scenes of how that food arrives at my doorstep every week.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I never feel like I am tackling a project or problem on my own. There is always another engineer, manager, purchasing agent, project manager, etc. to support and advise me through the most difficult challenges. It really feels like a team effort. That helps keep me motivated to be my best so that I can offer that same support in return.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I like to spend all the warm months outside golfing, swimming, and boating. In the winter months I like to snuggle up under a blanket and watch bad reality TV or play a long board game.

Ryan Speaks – Electrical Engineer

Why did you come to work for Matthews Automation Solutions?

I knew that the material handling industry was where my career was going to be, so I started looking at companies in the industry with great reputations for quality and being on the cutting edge of new technology and processes. Matthews was near the top of everyone I talked to when it came to these qualities. This was coming from end customers all the way down to the people installing the components in the warehouses.

What is the most exciting aspect of your career with Matthews?

I think it is not knowing what you could be working on in the future. We implement and design new engineering processes every day and being a part of that is exciting and fulfilling. We don’t always know the answer right away and it’s fun being able to get to that right answer.

What is the most interesting project you are working on right now?

I am working on integrating a legacy print and apply system into a new conveyor system. There is a challenge because the legacy print and apply doesn’t have the same technology as a new one and solving that puzzle is the goal.

Can you tell us an interesting fact or lesson you have learned while working for Matthews?

I have learned countless things since I have been here. The possible solutions to any problem are almost endless.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

Designing a solution on a computer and seeing it implemented in real life and actually moving product.  Working with teammates to group think solutions to problems and issues.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Spending time with my family and friends. Going to breweries. Gardening. Doing projects around the house.
